Psychologist and television presenter Esra Ezmeci has found herself in legal hot water due to the use of the title "clinical psychologist" on her office sign in Istanbul's Beşiktaş district. Facing accusations of unauthorized title usage, Ezmeci has been sentenced to 10 months in prison following a criminal complaint. The court has decided to postpone the announcement of the verdict.
According to a report by Habertürk, the "clinical psychologist" inscription on Esra Ezmeci's office sign was investigated on the grounds that she lacked the necessary diploma to use this title. Following the investigations, the prosecutor's office initiated a probe against Ezmeci. The indictment highlighted that Ezmeci used a professional title she was not authorized to hold.
In her defense, Ezmeci stated that she had taken courses in clinical psychology and completed a master's degree, claiming she did not use the "clinical psychologist" title. However, the court deemed the inscription on the sign as a criminal element and found Ezmeci guilty under the Law on the Practice of Medicine and Medical Specialties. The Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced Ezmeci to 10 months in prison and ruled for the postponement of the announcement of the verdict (HAGB).
